I Lifted HOW MUCH??

It just wasn't going to budge.

I tried to lift my legs again, but nothing.

"Phil," I said to my personal trainer. "I'm not a weenie, but I can't do this weight."

"Take it down a notch," he said very matter of fact.

I knocked the weight on the leg extension machine down from 90lbs to 75lbs. I took a deep breath and tried to lift the weights with my legs.

Still nothing.

I couldn't believe it.

It was my final exercise of the night. I knew I had worked hard, I knew I was at the end, but I couldn't believe I wasn't able to do a 75lb leg extension when I was able to lift that weight for several other leg exercises.

I moved the weight down to 35lbs, took a deep breath, and willed myself to lift this weight. Failure was not an option. I managed to get my legs about eight inches in the air when Trainer Phil shouted, "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Stop!"

I dropped my legs - there was no way I was going to be able to lift them any higher.

"Look!" he said.

I looked at the machine and couldn't figure out what he was looking at. And then I saw it. The previous person to use the machine had it set to 300 POUNDS.

Trainer Phil's eyes were huge.

My eyes were huge.

"Are you saying that I just lifted 300 POUNDS??" I squeaked.

"Um...you lifted 300lbs plus the 35lbs you had it set on. Wow!"

I really wish you could have seen the look on Trainer Phil's face. He was as impressed with my awesomeness as I was.

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I'd say that's worthy of shaving a few reps off this set! It should at least count for 5!"

Trainer Phil gave me a fist bump and shaved 5 reps off that set. And that's how I finished out my training session tonight.

Here's the thing: I didn't feel like being there tonight. I wasn't feeling well, and I was still sore from our training session last night. If it had been me, on my own, I would never have made it to the gym. I would have stayed home. No question. But look what I would have missed out on if I had gone with my feelings.

I STINKING LIFTED 335lbs OFF THE GROUND WITH MY OWN TWO LEGS.

Not to mention I sucked it up and worked it out for a solid hour.

But the best part of all? At the end of our workout, Trainer Phil said, "You earned it."

And that made me feel good.

Now on to my ice bath.

I just need to get out of the chair first.

Oooph.

  1. That's amazing girl! Very proud of you for stepping out and making this happen. Soak in everything you can from your trainer. If he's worth his salt (and sounds like he is) - he will leave you with a wealth of knowledge and motivation to move on when this training ends. Rock it!
